Belties

After much research we chose to raise Belted Galloways which can be Black, Dun or Red in color.

We chose belties because of their excellent foraging ability making our goal of pasture fed cows easier, their feed consumption is much less than standard size cows. They have great dispositions making them very easy to work with and handle. They are not hard on fences and are perfect for small acreages.

We chose small cattle because our breeding goals are to produce good quality medium to small sized dual-purpose cows that provide both meat and milk. Even with their smaller size they usually produce plenty of milk and/or meat for a couple or small family.

Galloways are a very old Scottish breed and are recognized as the oldest polled beef cattle in the world.

They are an extremely versatile breed which withstands extremes of temperature and climate. They are very docile and easy to handle and work with. They have the ability to forage and thrive in less than great conditions and perform outstandingly well on pasture. Being an excellent grazer, they are friendly to the environment and are good for pasture management. They offer quiet temperament, quality beef, ease of calving, are great mothers and have an abundant supply of milk but in a smaller package which is beneficial for our small acreage. Also called Belties or Oreo cows.
